cairo - Palestinian political groups have agreed on holding general elections at the end of next year. Discussions on this subject, led by the rival Hamas and Fatah, were finalized in Cairo on Wednesday with a joint statement. It also states that the participating factions leave it to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to set the date for the ballot.

Recently, the Sunni resistance movement Hamas, which served Gaza for ten years, already settled with Fatah, the moderate socialist party of Abbas, in the Egyptian capital. It was agreed to transfer the power in Gaza on 1 December to a unified government led by Abbas.
