World February 28, 2017 16:09

islamabad - The Pakistani government wants to reintroduce controversial military tribunals after a series of bloody terrorist attacks. They should continue to run for two years and ensure that terrorists and extremists to be tried quickly. The parliament votes on March 6 about a necessary adjustment of the constitution.

Pakistan also conducted military tribunals after an attack from the Pakistani Taliban on a school in December 2014. They were lifted in January. In the two years they existed they spoke 161 death sentences and handed down prison sentences to 113 extremists.

Human rights activists argue that military courts their goal, the elimination of terrorists, have not been achieved. Meanwhile, could the army, which for decades was in power in Pakistan undermine the civilian government and curtail civil liberties. That is why almost no one felt sure to extend the military courts in January. But the mood has changed after a series of attacks in February, which fell more than 130 deaths or injuries.
