Pakistan arrested dozens of extremists

- The Pakistani authorities have arrested in recent raids in the southern port city of Karachi 97 extremists of al Qaeda and the group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. Among them were two commanders of the latter group and al-Qaeda, said a military spokesman.
According to the spokesperson, the arrested extremists were involved in several major attacks, including in Pakistani air bases, a large airport and police stations. Several detainees also planned an attack on a prison in Hyderabad. By that action they would Khalid Sheikh Omar wished to liberate, who was convicted of the murder of journalist Daniel Pearl of the Wall Street Journal who was kidnapped in 2002.
