maagdenburg - More than 5600 donors have collectively donated over 600,000 euros for the victims and families of the attack on the Christmas market in Maagdenburg.

Mayor Simone Borris expressed her gratitude for the donations. 'The willingness of the population to donate is impressive and a further sign of the strong cohesion, broad support, and sense of community that we currently feel in many places in Maagdenburg,' Borris said.

Last Friday, a driver drove at high speed into visitors of the Christmas market. Five people died, and 235 were injured. A 50-year-old man, a doctor from Saudi Arabia, has been arrested.
