- From today, it is possible to check in and out with a smartphone in public transport. OV chip card developer Translink has partnered with different telecom companies.

Vodafone, KPN, Simyo, Telfort and Yes Telecom subscribers can now pay their travel by holding the device against a port or check-in and checking in and out as they would with a chip card. However, a compatible Android device is required.

Travelers can also see in the app how much balance they still have and what their last ten trips were. Also, the app gives a notification if the user is forgotten to check out.

Vodafone subscribers can use the existing Vodafone Wallet app. Customers from the other listed telecom companies can now download and use the OV chip Mobile app.

However, some limits apply. It is not yet possible to use a subscription via the smartphone. Discounts, apart from age discounts, can not be activated via the app. The participating companies are interviewed to make this possible in the future.
