OSCE: elections Hungary were unfair

World April 9, 2018 14:27

budapest - The elections in Hungary did not offer the opposition parties the same opportunities as the government parties. As a result, the elections have been marred, although fundamental rights have been respected, according to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

'The lavish spending on advertisements that strengthened the campaign message of the ruling coalition undermined the opportunities for participants to fight on an equal basis,' said one of the OSCE observers. 'Intimidating and xenophobic rhetoric, biased media and opaque campaign funding' hindered the debate according to the organization.

'Fundamental rights and freedoms were generally respected, but exercised in a hostile climate. Access to information and the freedoms of the media are limited, partly due to recent legislative changes. '

The ruling Fidesz party of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán became the big winner of the parliamentary elections on Sunday.
