Operation against mafia in Italy and Germany

rome - About two hundred members of one of the most notorious Mafia abbeys in Italy were arrested during a joint anti-mafia operation in Italy and Germany.

The Italian police said Tuesday that a large clan of the 'Ndrangheta crime organization from the southern region of Calabria was dismantled by the operation. According to the police, clans of the Pharaoh and Marincola families were infiltrated in both countries, especially in wine, food, refuse collection and funeral services.

Several government officials are suspected of corruption in this case, according to the statement, without specifying whether they were in Italy or in both countries. Some 50 million euros worth of possessions have been seized.
