brussels - The Public Prosecution Service appeals against the acquittal last month of eighteen suspects of the diamond robbery at Brussels airport in 2013. The Public Prosecution had demanded jail sentences of one to eight years, but the court was all free because of lack of evidence.

It involved fifteen men and three women. The case against the suspected prime suspect, Marc Bertoldi, remains to be dealt with. He is in a French cell for a kidnapping case. With the robbery, 37 million euros of diamonds were captured.

At least eight armed and masked persons entered the airport with a van on February 18, 2013 and drove up to the aircraft of a Swiss airline. There was a car from a security company with the boxes of diamonds ready to be transhipped to the hold of the plane. Within a few minutes the perpetrators had disappeared with their booty.
