aleppo - The historic town of Aleppo is now wholly owned by the Syrian army. That suggested the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Wednesday. For the rebels, the loss of the so-called Old Town a new setback. They are also getting reduced further in other parts of Aleppo.

East-Aleppo is the main urban area that up to now was under the control of several rebel groups. Who during the battles in the past two weeks lost about two-thirds of the district.

The Observatory follows the civil war in Syria from the UK through a network of observers on the ground.

Aleppo for the ground offensive was very heavily bombed by the Syrian and Russian Air Force. The Russians sailed to own say in weeks of air attacks anymore. They leave the battle on the ground forces of President Bashar al-Assad.
