Official death toll Sulawesi above 1550

jakarta/palu - The official death toll due to the earthquake and tsunami last Friday on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi has risen from more than 1400 to 1558. This has been reported by the emergency response service.

The damage in the area in the northwest of the island is enormous. In the badly hit city of Palu, some repair work has already been carried out. The electricity works again in many places and a number of shops and banks have also reopened the doors.

Eleven countries, including Australia, Great Britain and the United States, have sent helicopter aircraft to the disaster area.
