oslo - Norway says goodbye to radio via FM waves. The Scandinavian country is the first in the world to fully pass to digital DAB system. The transition starts next Wednesday in the northern town of Bodø. At the end of the year throughout the country switched to digital radio.

The DAB network would improve the reception should take care in the mountainous Norway. Also digital radio a better sound quality. Opponents, however, that the government is going too fast with the closing of the FM network. In particular, the two million car radios which are not yet suitable for DAB be a problem. Two thirds of Norwegians are against the switch to DAB, revealed last month, therefore a poll by the newspaper Dagbladet.

Switzerland also has plans to move away from FM, but will do so until 2020. Great Britain and Denmark are also looking at the possibilities for this. In the Netherlands DAB promoted annually during the week of digital radio. Concrete plans to turn off, however, FM are not there.
