- North Korean soldiers are employing outdated tactics from the 1980s in the current war between Russia and Ukraine.

North Korean Soldiers' Tactics Revealed in Modern Warfare

In the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, North Korean soldiers fighting on the side of Russia are utilizing tactics dating back to the 1980s. Despite the use of modern drones and long-range missiles in the war, North Korean soldiers have been reported to employ unconventional and outdated strategies.

According to Western intelligence reports, North Korean soldiers loyal to Kim Jong Un have resorted to extreme measures such as detonating hand grenades under their chins to avoid capture. They have been known to use their comrades as decoys to divert the attention of drones and have been observed removing their armor and helmets to increase mobility.

Reports indicate that North Korean soldiers have incurred significant casualties, with approximately 4,000 reported dead or injured. Their unconventional tactics include using hand grenades to eliminate enemies when cornered and displaying a lack of preparedness against modern drones.

Ukrainian commanders have described North Korean soldiers as fearless combatants who persist in fighting until incapacitated. They have noted the soldiers' willingness to use explosives to eliminate threats and their preference for repeated assaults on the same targets. The soldiers have demonstrated a lack of adaptation to modern warfare, relying on tactics more suited to the realities of warfare in the 1980s.

One Ukrainian special forces commander highlighted the North Koreans' agility and speed, noting their adeptness at evading capture by drones and their tendency to engage in indirect attacks on Ukrainian defenses. The soldiers have been observed planting anti-tank mines along their routes and employing anti-tank weapons to neutralize enemy positions.

Recent captures of North Korean soldiers revealed that their backpacks contained ammunition instead of supplies, showcasing their focus on combat readiness. The soldiers were found to be equipped with advanced assault rifles and carried multiple magazines, hand grenades, machine gun ammunition, and mines.

In a recent incident, Ukrainian forces apprehended two North Korean soldiers, one of whom detonated a hand grenade to avoid capture, posing as a Russian soldier under a false identity. The soldiers' belongings contained notes pledging allegiance to Kim Jong Un and promises of victory in combat, along with derogatory remarks towards Ukraine.

Evidence from the captured soldiers also included directives on engaging drones and reports of insubordination among the ranks. The notes revealed instances of theft, personal gain prioritization over duty, and instructions on coordinated drone interception and neutralization.
