News viewed increasingly through social media

oxford - More and more people take news to themselves through social media. According to research from the Reuters Institute Digital News Report 2016.

The study, which took place early this year in 26 countries including the Netherlands, shows that 51 percent of participants social media like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram weekly as a source of news. About 12 percent even indicated that it is their main source for news. Facebook is by far the most important network for finding, reading or watching and sharing news.

Especially for women, who are less likely to go directly to news websites or use apps, and young people are important social media. For a total of 28 percent of 18- to 24-year olds are social media's main source of news for the first time more than television, with 24 percent.

For the Netherlands 2006 people took part in the study. In total, 46 percent of Dutch converts social media every week to record news to him. Facebook is 36 percent previously under Dutch far the most popular. WhatsApp follows with 14 percent. YouTube is by 11 percent in the third place, Twitter rises by 8 percent in the fourth place and LinkedIn state with 5 percent fifth.
