A newborn girl in Sutton-in-Ashfield, England, will have to live with the wrong gender on her birth certificate due to a registration error. Grace Bingham and Ewan Murray, parents of the newborn, were sleep-deprived when they went to register the birth and didn't notice the mistake made by the registrar who accidentally marked their child as a boy.

Despite immediately realizing the error, they were shocked to find out that birth certificates cannot be corrected. The only option suggested by the authorities is to add a note in the margin of the original document, which the parents find inadequate as it could be easily overlooked.

This mistake raises concerns for the future of their daughter, named Lilah, as it may lead to misunderstandings when she applies for education, passport, or employment. The parents worry that people noticing the note might assume Lilah is transgender, which is not the case at this moment.

The distressing situation prompted a local parliament member to consider a change in the law, but the outcome and timeline for any potential amendments remain uncertain.
