los angeles - A new wildfire north of Los Angeles prompts large-scale evacuations due to 'immediate danger'.

Evacuations Due to New Wildfire

A new wildfire has broken out north of Los Angeles, spreading rapidly and prompting large-scale evacuations. In less than 2.5 hours, the fire has spread over an area of more than 20 square kilometers, according to the fire department.

The new wildfire is raging north of Castaic Lake, a reservoir northeast of Los Angeles. Evacuation orders have been issued for some areas due to 'immediate danger.' The number of people affected has not been disclosed yet. Castaic has a population of around 18,600 residents.

The California State Fire Department reports that the two deadly fires burning in Los Angeles are increasingly being brought under control. The largest fire, named the Palisades Fire, is 68% contained, while the smaller Eaton Fire is 91% contained.

The fires have claimed the lives of 28 people so far. Nearly 16,000 structures have been destroyed, with damages expected to reach into the tens of billions of euros.
