cairo - Egyptian archaeologists have in a roughly 3,500 year-old tomb near Luxor several mummies found in colorful coffins. Team leader Mustafa Waziri said Tuesday that eight mummified bodies have been recovered.

The tomb dates from the time of Pharaoh Tutankhamun and lay on the west bank of the Nile, not far from the Valley of the Kings. It belonged to Userhat according Waziri, a high court. Although the tomb was probably built during the 18th Dynasty, the coffins are placed there centuries later, between the 21st and 23rd dynasty. There are also plenty of small figures found as burial gifts.

After a break of more than six years, a few months ago the excavations resumed in the area.
