The fire broke out at the Rituraj Hotel, where 88 guests were staying, located in a bustling business district in central Kolkata.

One witness reported the death of a man who fell while trying to descend via a rainpipe. Additionally, twelve people sustained injuries during the incident.

Preliminary indications suggest that the fire may have been caused by ongoing construction work within the hotel premises, as mentioned by a hotel staff member.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims affected by this tragic event.
