A terrorist attack on a factory of Turkish Aerospace Industries near the Turkish capital Ankara has resulted in deaths and injuries, according to the Turkish Minister of Interior.

Social media footage shows a damaged entrance gate and a large smoke cloud. Turkish media reports indicate a suicide attack, while Habertürk TV mentions hostages and ongoing attacks.

NTV television also reported gunshots following the explosion that occurred around 4:00 pm local time, with video footage showing an armed individual on the premises.

The factory, owned by the Turkish government, is located over 40 kilometers from the capital and is involved in the production of airplanes, helicopters, drones, and satellites.

"A terrorist attack has taken place on the facilities of Turkish Aerospace Industries in Kahramankazan, Ankara. Unfortunately, there have been deaths and injuries," stated Turkish Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya. Yerlikaya mentioned "martyrs and wounded," with the term 'martyrs' commonly used to describe the death of soldiers.

Emergency services are on-site in large numbers, as reported by the Anadolu news agency. This week, an important aerospace industry fair is being held in Istanbul, with the participation of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha among others.
