brussels - Several metro stations in Brussels are closed following a shooting near Clemenceau station. Suspects possibly hiding in tunnel between stations.

Shooting Incident in Brussels

Multiple metro stations in Brussels are shut down after a shooting near Clemenceau station. The incident took place around 06:15, involving two individuals firing an automatic weapon in the air, as per police reports.

A police spokesperson mentioned that the suspects fled towards the metro station and might still be in a tunnel between two stations. A specialized police unit is currently searching the metro tunnels.

The affected metro stations include Clemenceau, Delacroix, and Zuid, with no metro service on lines 2 and 6 between Troon and Weststation. Tram services have also been halted in some areas.

Laurent Vermeersch, spokesperson for Brussels public transport company STIB-MIVB, stated, 'These are major lines. We cannot estimate the duration of the disruption at this moment.'

Vermeersch advised the public to avoid the affected lines and stations, and to utilize buses, trams, and operational metro lines for travel. 'Surface lines are still running in those areas, and alternative metro routes can take you everywhere,' he added.

Brussels has witnessed several shooting incidents in recent months, often linked to drug-related activities. It is suspected that this incident may also be connected to the drug scene.
