united kingdom - A tragic incident occurred as British woman Helen Davey (39) got trapped between the mattress and bed base of her ottoman bed, leading to her death. Find out more about the alarming details here.

A tragic incident took place as 39-year-old British woman, Helen Davey, tragically lost her life after her neck got caught between the mattress and bed base of her ottoman bed. Her daughter, Elizabeth, found her after the unfortunate accident. Helen Davey also had an 11-year-old son named George.

Coroner Jeremy Chipperfield raised alarm following the bizarre death of Davey back in June.

An ottoman bed, a popular furniture piece often used in smaller homes to provide extra storage space, has gas springs that help lift the mattress for convenient access to the storage area underneath. Designed to be easily lift and support their weight, they only come down when pulled back into place.

However, one of the gas springs supporting Davey's mattress was found to be faulty, causing the mattress to unexpectedly fall on her as she leaned over the opened base. Unable to free herself, she died due to positional asphyxiation.

In a letter to the government, Chipperfield warns that ottoman beds pose a risk of more fatalities if no action is taken. In his report following the hearing, the coroner stated, "Faulty gas springs are life-threatening."
