rotterdam - Most detainees were released Sunday were arrested during the night of Saturday to Sunday during the riots around the Turkish consulate in Rotterdam. Police arrested a total of sixteen people. Fourteen of them have been sent away, a spokeswoman said Sunday.

A number of them has to answer later in court. They were arrested roads public violence and disobeying orders of the police.

The riots broke out after the forced departure of the Turkish Minister for Family Affairs Fatma Betül Kaya Sayan, after angry Turkish Dutch took to the streets. They have been repeatedly asked to leave peacefully. A large part of the demonstrators heeded that call, but some of them started pelting police with bricks and flower pots. That was the ME reason to intervene.

Seven people were injured during the riots, including one officer who sustained a broken hand.
