london - Clashes between the government army and insurgents in northwest Syria have claimed the lives of more than 240 people.

The jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies launched an attack on areas controlled by the government on Wednesday, marking the heaviest fighting in the northwest since 2020, according to the observatory.

The UK-based monitoring organization reported that the fighting is taking place up to 2 kilometers from the city of Aleppo. Syrian state media said four people were killed in Aleppo due to artillery shelling on student housing by jihadists. The observatory has documented 25 civilian deaths as a result of the intensified violence.
