More than 100 deaths in a month in Tripoli

tripoli - In the Libyan capital Tripoli, in spite of a ceasefire agreement agreed last month, 106 people were killed. Another 500 people were injured in fighting with rival militias according to the internationally recognized unitary government.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations called in a statement on Saturday all parties to the conflict to end the fighting immediately and to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population.

Libya has been in chaos since the death of ruler Muammar al-Kadaffi in 2011. Three governments are fighting for power in the country and hundreds of militias are benefiting from the power vacuum in much of the North African state. Cells of extremists, including IS, would also stop in the country.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) described the situation in Libya as desolate. The only remaining international airport was closed due to the fighting.
