amsterdam - Democratic senator aims to highlight double standards with 'Contraception Starts with Erection' bill.

Mississippi Senator Proposes Ban on Masturbation

A Democratic senator in Mississippi has introduced a bill named the 'Contraception Starts with Erection' law to underscore the necessity of both partners in conception. The bill would prohibit men from ejaculating genetic material without the intent of fertilization, effectively banning masturbation and non-coital sexual activities that lead to ejaculation.

The proposed law, submitted on Monday, includes fines of $1,000 for a first offense, $5,000 for a second offense, and $10,000 for subsequent violations. The method of enforcement for such a law remains unspecified.

In an interview with Newsweek, the senator clarified that the bill aims to expose the 'double standard in legislation,' questioning the government's authority to regulate personal activities within the privacy of one's home.

However, the likelihood of the bill being passed is minimal, as Republicans hold a significant majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate in Mississippi.

Following the 2022 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to end constitutional abortion rights and delegate regulatory powers to individual states, twelve states, including Mississippi, have enforced strict abortion restrictions. Six states have banned abortions between six to twelve weeks post-conception, with eight states limiting access to contraceptive methods for women.
