Miss Belgium strikes back after wave of racism

- Angeline Flor Pua, who was named Miss Belgium 2018 on Saturday, received a huge wave of racist reactions to her victory last weekend. The 22-year-old woman from Antwerp with Filipino roots reacts strongly today: 'This is not going to stop me from becoming a good Miss Belgium.'

Saturday came a dream for the 22-year-old Angeline. She survived the attack on the airport in Zaventem in 2016 and then combined seven laps to become a pilot. Now the student also bears the title of Miss Belgium. The beauty of Pua seems to be both inside and out, yet 'her' country is not exactly behind the title.

'Hopefully they have checked if it is not a ladyboy', 'Miss Belgium of the French fries' and 'Are we sure that it is a miss and not a mister', she was thrown to her head. Many of these messages have been removed, some indignant people still share screenshots of the racist comments.

Angeline reacts at VTM News to the racist comments, which she finds 'particularly regrettable'. 'I was born in Belgium, in Wilrijk, and I have Belgian nationality,' she says. 'You can not just judge people on the basis of their appearance. But this will not stop me from becoming a good miss Belgium. '
