quetta - In an explosion in a coal mine in the Pakistani province of Baluchistan, at least sixteen miners were killed on Saturday. At least twelve miners are trapped underground. According to a spokesman for the Pakistani disaster response, the explosion was caused by a too high concentration of methane gas in the mine.
In a nearby mine, two miners also died on Saturday during a landslide. Whether there is a connection with the explosion is not known. There are regular accidents in the mines in Baluchistan.
