Mexico's Decision on Accepting Irregular Migrants

Mexico stated they will accept irregular migrants facing deportation from the US but clarified they do not intend to be considered a safe third country. President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of protecting sovereignty and respecting the rights of Mexicans, highlighting their dialogue-focused approach.

President Sheinbaum addressed the situation of thousands of irregular migrants expected to be deported from the US during a daily press briefing at the National Palace. She emphasized that while Mexico accepts its own citizens being deported from the US, they do not wish to become a safe third country for migrants from other nations.

Sheinbaum underscored that Mexico is in constant communication regarding the possibility of other countries sending their citizens to Mexico. She highlighted their commitment to upholding sovereignty and respecting the rights of Mexicans through an honorable, responsible, and dialogue-oriented approach.

According to local reports, since President Donald Trump took office, a total of 4,094 irregular Mexican migrants have been deported.
