Mayors sing Catalan anthem in Brussels
brussels - A large group of mayors from Catalonia has called in Brussels to support the deprived Catalan government. Between the buildings of the European Commission and the European Council they sang the Catalan national anthem and pleaded for the release of 'political prisoners.'
'Live the Republic', scanned the mayors and their followers. A little further down were opponents of the separatists with Spanish flags. Elsewhere in Brussels, Catalan entrepreneurs asked for the economic consequences of a divorce, which they felt as a result.
About two hundred mayors have traveled to the Belgian capital to support the deprived government of Catalonia, which unlawfully declared independence. A number of ex-ministers are in the cell in Spain.
The Spanish government wants Belgium to hand out the elected former prime minister Carles Puigdemont and four ex-ministers. Puigdemont is expected to join the mayors later in the day. The protesters will not receive official receipt. The European Commission and most EU countries consider the issue as a Spanish matter.
