Mayor Brussels steps on

brussels - The mayor of Brussels, Yvan Mayeur, steps up. He will announce his departure Thursday evening, reports his cabinet. His position was untenable. Mayeur has been strongly under threat in the last few days because he paid a lot for attending meetings for a homeless association.

The socialist received 1400 euros gross per month for his administrative work at the shelter, called Samusocial. Alright sounded outrage. Many politicians of his own Socialist Party (PS) also said that he had to honor himself. The PS threatened to leave the city council earlier if the Mayeur failed to get up quickly. The Brussels Parliament had already decided to set up a committee of inquiry.

The Mayeur, who was arrested in 2013, also finds 'a lot of money', but according to him, the amounts were considered to be 'done work', he said in Belgian media on Thursday. He expressed willingness to repay the money. The mayor had already made his party functions available, 'not to embarrass the party', but that proved insufficient. The full board of Samusocial has already gone on Wednesday.
