In a regrettable incident in 2023, a man mistakenly shot a black teenager who rang the wrong doorbell in Kansas City, Missouri. The man, Lester, shot the teenager, Yarl, in the arm and head, believing he was a burglar. Despite the severe injuries, Yarl has made significant progress in recovery and has resumed his studies.

Following Lester's death before sentencing, Yarl's family expressed a mix of emotions, stating that his demise brings closure but not justice.
