slovakia - A 66-year-old man was critically injured in Slovakia after being attacked by a brown bear while picking mushrooms. The man was airlifted to the hospital and is not in life-threatening condition.

A 66-year-old man in Slovakia was critically injured when he was attacked by a brown bear while picking mushrooms in a forest in the northwest of the country. The man suffered serious injuries to his hands and legs, but was able to inform emergency services. The local police have warned people in the area to be cautious, and the incident is currently under investigation.

There are an estimated 1,200 bears in the wild in Slovakia. Bears typically avoid humans unless startled, or if mother bears feel their cubs are in danger. In a separate incident in early October, another mushroom picker was killed by a brown bear in Slovakia.

Since the beginning of this year, around forty bears have been shot in Slovakia after venturing into villages or urban areas and being perceived as a threat. The shooting of brown bears has sparked political controversy in the country.
