Maersk: trade with Iran becomes impossible

copenhagen - Container distributor A.P. Møller-Maersk expects to stop activities in Iran. 'With the sanctions that the Americans are going to impose, you can not do business in Iran if you do business in the United States as well,' CEO Søren Skou told the Reuters news agency. 'And we do that on a large scale.'

US President Donald Trump announced this month that the US is withdrawing from the nuclear deal with Iran. This agreement cleared the way for many companies to do business in the Islamic Republic. It provided for the lifting of sanctions in exchange for restricting the Iranian nuclear program.

The US wants to revitalize these sanctions. That is sensitive in Europe. French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that the EU should take measures to protect European companies doing business with Iran from US sanctions.
