Debutant Álvaro González emerged as an unexpected hero for Johor Darul Ta'zim in their AFC Champions League Elite clash against Central Coast Mariners. The Spanish defender, known for his defensive prowess, showcased his attacking skills by scoring two crucial goals on his debut.

Despite Central Coast Mariners putting up a strong fight and managing to equalise, González's second goal in the 79th minute sealed a 2-1 victory for Johor Darul Ta'zim. The win puts them in a favorable position to advance to the knockout stage of the competition.

Johor Darul Ta'zim capitalized on their numerical advantage after Central Coast Mariners' goalkeeper was sent off just before halftime.
