oberharz am brocken - In the Harz, Sunday's longest suspension bridge for pedestrians has been officially taken into service. The free-hanging part of the footpath 100 meters above the river Rappbode, near a dam, is 458 meters. So far, Sochi's record holder has a 439 meter overvoltage.

According to local transmitter MDR Sachsen-Anhalt, the special pedestrian bridge is 1.20 meters wide and a total of 483 meters long. The weight is 118 tonnes. A balustrade of 1.30 high with stainless steel vanes must prevent accidents.

The construction by an Austrian company lasted almost ten months. What the cost has cost is not disclosed. Adults pay 6 euros for a walk on level. That's a return trip. Residents of the nearby city of Oberharz am Brocken are allowed to spend the half-hour on the bridge.
