- Liverpool's John Heitinga has been allowed to discuss the head coach position at Ajax, following a successful stint assisting Arne Slot at Liverpool.

Liverpool Assistant Coach John Heitinga Granted Permission to Speak to Ajax

Liverpool has given permission to assistant coach John Heitinga to enter talks with Ajax about potentially becoming their new head coach, an ESPN source revealed. The 41-year-old former player for Ajax and the Netherlands has been instrumental in Liverpool's recent success, helping them secure the Premier League title.

John Heitinga's Background and Coaching Career

Heitinga, who previously played for clubs like Atletico Madrid, Everton, and Fulham, began his coaching journey as a youth coach at Ajax. He later took over as head coach of Ajax's senior team in January 2023. With Ajax's current head coach stepping down after a disappointing season, Heitinga's return to Amsterdam seems likely.

Last summer, Heitinga joined Liverpool as an assistant coach under Arne Slot and made significant contributions to the team's success. Despite Slot's recommendation for Heitinga to stay for another season, the Dutch coach might be on his way to Ajax.

Potential Impact on Liverpool and Ajax

If Heitinga departs for Ajax, Liverpool will seek a replacement to maintain their competitive edge in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Ajax is looking to bounce back from losing the Eredivisie title to PSV Eindhoven after a late-season collapse under their previous coach.
