abeokuta - A zookeeper in Nigeria was attacked and killed by a lion while bringing food to the animal in a wildlife park, witnesses say.

A zookeeper was fatally attacked by a lion in a wildlife park in Nigeria while bringing food to the animal. The 35-year-old man did not survive the incident. According to witnesses, the experienced lion caretaker may have forgotten to properly secure the enclosure or was confident nothing would happen. The lion managed to enter the cage and viciously attacked the victim, grabbing him by the neck. Colleagues shot the lion to prevent further harm to the man's body.

The incident occurred after closing time at the Presidential Library Wildlife Park, owned by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, in Ogun state.

Local police confirmed that "the lion caused severe fatal injuries to the man's neck."
