Lifetime Russian military in Armenia

gyumri - A Russian soldier was Tuesday convicted by a court in Armenia to life imprisonment.

The soldier defected last year and he had slain seven members of an Armenian family. The massacre led to angry protests in the former Soviet republic.

The trial was conducted under tight security in a Russian barracks in Gyumri under Armenian law. In previous cases were tried Russian soldiers in Russia. According to Interfax news agency, the soldier will likely serve his sentence in Russia.
