Legal Defeat for Trump: Payments to Aid Organizations Must Continue

washington - The US government, under President Trump, faces a legal defeat in attempts to halt payments to aid organizations.

Legal Battle Over $2 Billion in Payments

A legal battle ensued over approximately $2 billion in payments to aid organizations funded by the US government. The organizations claim they have been adversely affected by the new administration's decision to suspend development aid spending and are seeking compensation for work already completed.

Federal judge Amir Ali ruled in favor of the organizations last month. The government's attempt to challenge this ruling in the Supreme Court was unsuccessful. The Supreme Court has now tasked Ali with clarifying 'which obligations the government must fulfill'.

Four conservative justices in the Supreme Court dissented from the decision. Justice Samuel Alito expressed his perplexity at the majority opinion allowing a lower court to have 'unchecked power' to compel the US government to pay out $2 billion in taxpayer funds.
