Left and right balanced in Sweden

World September 9, 2018 19:48

stockholm - The center-left and center-right bloc have become about the same size in the Swedish parliamentary elections: 39.4 versus 39.6 percent, according to the first predictions after the closing of the polling stations on Sunday evening.

Compared with the previous ballot in the Scandinavian country, that means a firm jerk to the right. This is largely due to the anti-immigration party Sweden Democrats, which according to the exitpolls received 19.2 percent of the votes.

The Social Democrats, who have held governmental responsibility in recent years, have made considerable contributions. The party of Prime Minister Stefan Löfven remains the largest according to the forecasts, but has no view on the formation of a stable red-green coalition.
