'Leak solar panels can lead to power outages'

Power companies do not see the problem, but independent experts recognize the danger, according to the Volkskrant. The Ministry of Economic Affairs reviews whether it is necessary to improve the ict protection of solar panels.

The leak would be in the many thousands of inverters, devices that make the electricity from solar panels suitable for the power grid. Malicious people could easily turn them off.

In the worst case, this can cause the equivalent of the power consumption of millions of households in a few seconds on a sunny day. This could lead to an imbalance of the electricity grid.
