north korea - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un orders the creation of a modern army to cope with all kinds of wars effectively.

Kim Jong-un's Directive for a Modern Military

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has instructed the establishment of a modern army to deal effectively with all types of wars. During a visit to the Kang Kon Military Academy, Kim emphasized the importance of adopting modern technology and methods in military training. He highlighted the need for North Korean soldiers to be trained in the latest technology and technical equipment to be able to handle any kind of warfare. Kim underlined the significance of the academy in advancing its history and traditions with a modern perspective as a crucial part of the Korean Workers' Party's policy to strengthen the military. He stressed the importance of practical training in the army and issued a directive for all soldiers to be taught the real experiences of modern warfare.

The timing of Kim's directive is noteworthy as North Korean soldiers fighting alongside Russia in the Kursk region and falling prisoner to Ukraine reported significant losses against drones due to limited training. The Ukrainian government had previously announced that over 3,000 North Korean soldiers were killed or injured in early January while fighting in Russia. Kim's order for a modern army comes in the wake of these substantial losses faced by North Korean troops against Ukrainian drones.
