Juncker wants a second term

berlin - Jean-Claude Juncker wants a second term as President of the European Commission. He told the station Deutschlandfunk. The interview will be broadcast Sunday.

Juncker (62) was previously Minister of Finance and Prime Minister of Luxembourg. He is now halfway through his term, which ends in 2019. Juncker is one of the most experienced European politicians. Between 2005 and 2013 he was chairman of the Eurogroup.

The election of Juncker went a months-long political struggle in advance. Previously, European leaders wore a candidate for the EU presidency. But since 2014, the EU committee chairman is nominated by the largest group in the European Parliament.
