rome, italy - Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar met in Rome to discuss the ceasefire in Gaza and the potential for a new era of peace in the Middle East.

Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar held a meeting at the state guesthouse Villa Madama in Rome to discuss the ceasefire in Gaza and the prospects for peace in the region.

Host Minister Tajani expressed hope for a ceasefire in Gaza, stating that it could signal a new era in the Middle East and lead to the restoration of peace. He also mentioned Italy's readiness to contribute troops to a UN mission to ensure the peace of the Palestinian people.

Tajani emphasized Italy's commitment to providing aid to civilians in Gaza through the "Food for Gaza" campaign initiated with UN agencies in March 2024. He also reiterated Italy's support for an agreement between Gaza and the West Bank under Palestinian leadership.

Israeli Minister Saar highlighted efforts to secure the return of hostages in Gaza through negotiations and stressed Israel's security concerns in the region. He stated that Israel seeks to prevent terrorism and maintain security, emphasizing the importance of responsible governance in Gaza.
