Italy and France argue about Aquarius

World June 12, 2018 19:00

rome - The Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has reacted angrily to the French criticism of the way his government deals with rescue ship Aquarius. The recently appointed Italian head of government blamed Paris hypocrisy.

'The statements that come from France about the Aquarian affair are surprising and show a serious lack of knowledge about what is actually going on,' said a statement from Conte's office. 'Italy does not accept hypocritical lessons from countries that always prefer not to give home when it comes to immigration. '

Italy refused to have the Aquarius installed before. This led to gesteggel about which country the hundreds of migrants on board should catch. Eventually, Spain offered to moor the vessel. Some four hundred crew members transfer to two Italian ships, which then sail to Valencia with the Aquarius.
