Hitler committed suicide before Germany surrendered at all. Together with his life partner Eva Braun, he robbed himself of life on April 30, 1945. His mortal remains and that of his mistress were then burned in the garden at the Führerbunker in Berlin. This happened in haste, with the result that the bodies only partially went into flames.

The lack of clarity about Hitler's fate- and the rumors that could arise from this- is due in large part to the Soviet Union, as was previously stated by historians. Stalin immediately after the discovery of Hitler's half-burned corpse, ordered it to be secretly removed from the site. The Soviets did not inform the other Allies about this.

Hitler's remains, together with the remains of several other Nazi leaders, were secretly buried on an army base in the former East German Magdeburg. In 1970 the corpse was dug up again and cremated, to prevent the grave from ever becoming a place of pilgrimage. The ashes were dumped in the river Biederitz.

Only the jaw was kept in a Moscow vault and in the 90s the Russians announced that it was in their possession. Recently, the Russian secret service FSB gave French doctors permission for an investigation. They are pleased with the new confirmation: 'We can now put an end to all conspiracy theories about Hitler. He did not flee to Argentina in a submarine and he did not hide at the South Pole or on the dark side of the moon. '
