amsterdam - While the Netherlands is heading the hottest new and old in years, and ski slopes in the Alps have to do it almost without exception with artificial snow, Istanbul is getting ready for an overdose of wintry precipitation.
Turkish Airlines has removed many as 142 flights in the coming days, including to and from Hamburg, Munich, Milan and Tehran. 'Light snow today will over the next few days in heavier rainfall,' the carrier's website.
Residents of Istanbul are advised not to go out unless there is no alternative. The snowfall will continue into the weekend. Thousand snow blades and other heavy equipment is ready to keep the main roads of the metropolis passable.
