Israeli PM Netanyahu Announces Death of Hamas Leader Mohammed Sinwar
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar was killed in an Israeli airstrike on May 13. Sinwar, aged 49, reportedly assumed control of Hamas after his older brother, Yahya, was killed by Israeli forces in Rafah last year.
Key Details of the Incident
According to Israeli officials, Mohammed Sinwar was targeted in an airstrike on a tunnel beneath a hospital in Khan Younis. The operation also resulted in the deaths of other senior Hamas commanders.
Mohammed Sinwar was allegedly in charge of the 58 Israeli hostages still held in Gaza, with approximately twenty believed to remain alive. The incident in October 2022, where Hamas kidnapped 251 individuals, including women and children, led to a significant escalation in conflict between Israel and the militant group.
