Israel does not want to expel Africans

World April 2, 2018 13:12

tel aviv - At the last minute, Israel sees the planned expulsion of more than 20,000 asylum seekers from Africa. The government wanted to fly them to Rwanda and Uganda in the short term. But the government of Prime Minister Netanyahu sees this, the Haaretz newspaper reported on Monday.

The expulsion back to Africa will not take place because, in consultation with the UN refugee organization, at least 16,000 Africans stranded in Israel can move on to Western countries. It is not known what arrangement has been made with which countries.

A week ago thousands of people in Tel Aviv argued against the expulsion plan. They argued that a country that has been built up mainly by persecutors can not return the refugees. Most Africans in Israel come from Eritrea, Sudan and South Sudan.
