At the onslaught in southwest Manhattan eight people were killed when a truck intervened on passers-by. Eleven people were injured.
According to the judicial committees in the House of Representatives and the Senate, the perpetrator has entered the United States on a so-called Uzbekistan Diversity Visa in 2010. Commission President Bob Goodlatte has asked to terminate the program for these visas.
President Donald Trump decided to end this program at a White House cabinet meeting. In addition, Trump said that the assassin should receive the death penalty, which led him to criticism of human rights organizations.
