tehran - Iran's leader, Ali Khamenei, expresses pessimism over nuclear negotiations with the US, citing disagreements on uranium enrichment. The US aims to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Iran's Leader Khamenei Voices Pessimism on Nuclear Talks

Ali Khamenei has expressed pessimism regarding the ongoing nuclear negotiations with the United States, specifically concerning Iran's uranium enrichment program.

Disagreement on Uranium Enrichment

The American envoy, Steve Witkoff, emphasized that Iran must cease uranium enrichment, a point of contention in the talks.

While Iran claims its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes, the US is concerned about the potential for weapons development.

History of Agreements and Withdrawals

Iran had previously agreed to limit uranium enrichment to 3.67% under the 2015 nuclear deal with multiple countries, from which the US withdrew during President Trump's term.

Trump's administration deemed the agreement unfavorable, leading to Iran's suspension of compliance and reported enrichment up to 60%.

Current Standoff

Despite discussions on enrichment levels, the US insists that any degree of enrichment is unacceptable, aiming to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Iran, however, maintains its position on uranium enrichment, highlighting the challenges in reaching a consensus.
